SBA Disaster Loans Now Available for Kankakee County Storm Victims — Act Before May 9 Deadline

The SBA announced the availability of low-interest federal disaster loans for Illinois businesses, private nonprofits, and residents affected by the severe storm and tornado that occurred on March 10. The SBA issued a disaster declaration in response to a request received from Gov. J.B. Pritzker on April 7. The declaration covers the primary county of Kankakee County, which is eligible for both Physical Damage Loans and Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) from the SBA. The contiguous Illinois counties of Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Livingston, and Will, and the Indiana counties of Lake and Newton are only eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) from the SBA.
SBA customer service representatives are at Disaster Loan Outreach Centers in the primary county of Kankakee to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help individuals complete their application. Walk-ins are welcome, but applicants can schedule an in-person appointment in advance at appointment.sba.gov. Please note the centers listed below will permanently close on Saturday, May 9 at 2:00 p.m.

Kankakee County is a PRIMARY county for the Illinois Declaration 21493, which may grant eligibility for financial assistance from the SBA for:
Business Physical Disaster Loans – Up to $2 Million: Homeowners, renters, nonprofit organizations, and b the ausinesses of all sizes are eligible for physical disaster assistance.
Economic Injury Disaster Loans – Up to $2 Million: Economic Injury Disaster Loans provide working capital for small businesses and private nonprofits and help them recover from financial losses due to a declared disaster. Businesses are eligible for these loans regardless of whether they have suffered property damage. The loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills not paid due to the disaster. The application deadline for Economic Injury Disaster Loans is January 11, 2027.
Home Disaster Loans – Up to $500,000 for Homeowners to repair or replace a primary residence and get assistance to protect their home against future disasters.
Additionally, up to $100,000 for Homeowners and Renters to repair or replace personal property, such as furniture, appliances, and vehicles.
The deadline for Physical Damage loans is June 8, 2026.
Eligible SBA disaster loan borrowers may choose to receive expanded mitigation assistance to help mitigate their home or business against future disasters. SBA disaster loans can be increased up to 20 percent to make building upgrades.
